On the left side of the circuit board, the knob adjusts the bias, while the one on the right controls the transistor gain. Since germanium transistors are sensitive to temperature, you can adjust them to the optimal position based on the ambient temperature. The panel knob controls the output voltage; the left side is the input, and the right side is the output.
