Martin 00-28 Modern Deluxe – Overview

The Martin 00-28 Modern Deluxe blends the classic rosewood small-body voice with a series of forward-thinking upgrades designed to enhance tone, responsiveness, and playability. Built in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, this premium Martin model pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with East Indian rosewood back and sides, delivering remarkable balance, rich harmonic overtones, and exceptional clarity in a comfortable small-body design.

Part of Martin’s Modern Deluxe Series, this guitar incorporates advanced design features that elevate the traditional 00 platform. A VTS-treated Sitka spruce top recreates the resonance and responsiveness of a naturally aged instrument, while forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing allows the top to vibrate more freely for increased sensitivity, dynamic range, and tonal complexity.

Tone & Performance

The 00-28 Modern Deluxe delivers the articulate response and balance that make the 00 body size a favorite among fingerstyle players and acoustic performers. The torrefied spruce top reacts quickly to even the lightest touch, producing warm bass response, detailed mids, and clear trebles with outstanding note separation.

Players will notice exceptional tonal balance across the strings, making this instrument ideal for fingerstyle arrangements, singer-songwriter accompaniment, and studio recording environments where clarity and responsiveness are essential. The responsive bracing and lightweight construction help the guitar feel lively and expressive right out of the case.

Construction & Modern Deluxe Features

Martin’s traditional dovetail neck joint and solid wood construction preserve the resonance and tonal depth expected from a handcrafted American-built acoustic guitar. The Modern Deluxe platform introduces several premium upgrades, including a titanium truss rod for reduced neck weight and increased responsiveness, along with a liquidmetal bridge pin system designed to maximize energy transfer from the strings to the soundboard.

The comfortable Vintage Deluxe neck profile with High-Performance Taper and 1 3/4" nut width provides modern playability while maintaining the familiar feel many Martin players prefer. An ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, and premium gold Waverly tuning machines complete the instrument with both performance and visual elegance.
