DESCRIPTION The Selmer 1400B B♭ clarinet is a well-established student-level instrument trusted by educators and band programs for decades. Manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana, this model was designed to support beginning and advancing players with dependable tone production, ease of response, and long-term durability.

Its Resonite plastic body offers exceptional resistance to environmental changes, making it a practical choice for daily school use, private lessons, and marching band settings. The medium-large bore contributes to a full, centered sound while remaining forgiving for developing embouchures, helping students build confidence and control.

The nickel-plated nickel-silver keywork is both durable and smooth in operation, while the ergonomic layout promotes proper hand position and comfortable playability. Traditional bladder pads ensure consistent sealing and reliable performance across all registers. Many examples of this model, including the instrument offered here, are fitted with a fixed thumb rest for added stability.

This particular clarinet, serial number 15994XX, dates to the early 1990s. It shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with age and use, including visible feather scratches on the body and wear on the metal mechanism. There is no severe corrosion or rust present. Our technician has serviced the instrument and adjusted it for General Playing Conditions, replacing corks and pads where necessary to ensure proper function.

The Selmer 1400B remains a highly recommended choice for students and parents seeking a reliable, budget-friendly clarinet backed by Selmer’s long-standing reputation for quality.
