For sale is a Pre-Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay I guitar from 1977 in classic Sunburst.
This model is part of Leo Fender’s first major designs after leaving Fender and is considered a highly innovative and historically important guitar from the early Music Man era.
The guitar is all original except for the bridge (Schaller replacement, not done by me) and a few screws.
The original electronics are fully functional and sound excellent.
Electronics & Features
The StingRay I guitar was far ahead of its time and offers a very flexible active circuit:
- 2 original humbuckers
- 4-way pickup selector, with position 4 switching both pickups out of phase
- Treble boost switch
- Master volume
- Two active tone controls with center detent (0 position):
- Treble: boost and cut
- Bass: boost or bass cut (high-pass filter)
Unlike traditional passive tone controls, this allows both darkening and brightening of the sound, as well as very precise low-end shaping.
The neck features the Micro-Tilt adjustment, allowing accurate control of neck angle and action.
Condition
The guitar shows clear, honest signs of use, including visible finish checking, which I personally find very attractive.
Cosmetically worn, but plays and functions perfectly.
Setup & Specs
- Weight: approx. 4.0 kg (8.8 lbs)
- Action:
- Low E: approx. 1.7 mm
- High e: approx. 1.5 mm
- Currently well set up and ready to play
A characterful vintage guitar with history, unique electronics, and a distinctive sound — not a case queen, but a real player’s instrument.

- 2 originale Humbucker
- 4-Way-Schalter, wobei Position 4 beide Pickups out of phase schaltet
- Höhen-Boost-Schalter
- Master Volume
Setup & Specs
- Gewicht: ca. 4,0 kg
- Aktuelle Saitenlage:
- tiefe E-Saite: ca. 1,7 mm
- hohe e-Saite: ca. 1,5 mm
- Sehr gut spielbar, aktuell sauber eingestellt
