ESP The Phoenix Custom Shop previously owned and played by Iron Maiden and later owned by their guitar tech and tour manager, Bill Barclay. Bill went on to be the production and tour manager for Joe Satriani, Mötley Crüe, Scorpions, Anthrax, Living Color, Meatloaf, Foreigner, Roger Waters, UK Pop Idol and American Idol amongst others, often lending a hand with guitars when needed. During his time with Iron Maiden, Bill primarily tech'd for ESP artist Dave Murray. You can also find some shots with him playing on stage with the band during performances. This guitar appears to have joined Iron Maiden specifically on tour around 1987 to 1988, after which it was given to Bill. The flight case has Iron Maiden's tour cargo stickers from their Columbus, Ohio tour date and also a waybill for the band with Rock-It-Cargo from JFK airport in New York City to London Heathrow airport along with 11 other instruments for the band. The guitar then lived in a museum collection in Switzerland amongst the earliest Jackson and Charvel guitars, including Robbin Ford of RATT's Jackson Firebird collection, where this was displayed next to. The guitar then went to a studio executive and the largest ESP collection in Europe. It's an incredible 1 of 1 custom guitar linked to not only Iron Maiden, but the man who made most major rock and metal bands live shows happen for the 80s, 90s and 2000s.
