If you are looking at this auction, then chances are you
know how special this effects unit's capabilities are. This is a lean,
mean and definitely not clean sounding machine. If you are looking for
an effects unit with considerable character, this is THE one. Nothing
out there sounds like an Ursa Major Space Station. You can tell from
the few opportunities to actually purchase one that current owners are
not giving these up. The distinct and very distinctive sounds that come
out of an SST-282 make the desirability of this box is just too
difficult to let go... which makes this not an easy auction to put up.
Condition:
I purchased this unit 6 years ago from a well known musician with an amazing studio. It has been my go to reverb and delay during sessions. It has never left my smoke-free studio. It has been babied. I have never needed to service the unit, save for taking the knobs off of the front the clean the dust which accumulated from the previous owner/owners. It does have a couple minimally scratchy pots (Taps 5&6 and Taps 7&8 knobs) which, once they are set, do not affect the sound. It is only during movement in certain sections of the pot that a small amount of scratchiness is heard. This has not affected usage and never was a problem when recording. All other knobs and buttons work wonderfully and without issues. Both the Reverb and the Delay functions work as they should.
Cosmetically, there are some marks on the top of the unit as well as some sticker residue on the bottom. I did not attempt to clean the residue on the bottom as it is not visible when installed in my rack. Please inspect the unit by looking at all the pictures I posted. I can send additional pictures if necessary. Please contact me.
With all that said, because this is a vintage unit, it is being sold as is.
Additional Info:
The Space Station model was one of the first digital delay/reverb units to utilize a very different architecture for creating the delay and reverb effects.
Although these are no longer in production, you can visit the manufacturers website Seven Woods Audio for an explanation as to why this effects unit sounds the way it does, as well as hear some of the capabilities sound wise.
These units are still being serviced by Studio Electronics, Inc in California should you want anything looked at in the future.
I cannot stress how difficult these are to come by in such great condition. I myself waited 4 years to get a hold of the one I am regrettably selling right now. I am sure this will be a useful addition to any studio looking for something unique to install in the racks.
The unit will be packed very well and insured to guard against the usual bumps and bruises shipping companies love to inflict on studio equipment. I will only ship to the USA, and the free shipping is only to the continental 48 states. Shipping will only go to verified Paypal addresses, no PO Boxes.
