Black Lion PG-2: Studio-Grade Power for a Full Rack

The Black Lion Audio PG-2 is a 2U rackmount studio power conditioner, built with fourteen total outlets across four filtered banks. It anchors a large rack and delivers clean, sequenced power to every device inside it. Twelve switched outlets on the rear handle the permanent gear, while two convenience outlets on the front stay ready for chargers and tools. In two rack spaces it turns a wall of noisy AC into an organized, protected power supply.

How a Power Conditioner Protects Your Signal

A power conditioner filters and guards the AC power your gear runs on rather than just multiplying outlets. It removes EMI and RFI, the electrical and radio interference that adds hiss and buzz to audio, and it absorbs voltage spikes before they reach your equipment. The PG-2 filters 99.7 percent of that line noise, far above the roughly 85 percent typical of similar units. The payoff is a quieter noise floor and better protection for costly electronics.

Fourteen Outlets Split Across Four Banks

The twelve rear outlets are organized into four banks: two for digital audio, one for analog audio, and one high-current bank. Keeping digital and analog devices on separate filtered banks stops converter and clock noise from leaking into quiet analog gear. Two front convenience outlets add quick access for a laptop, a phone, or a soldering iron. Every outlet shares the same surge and filtering stage for even protection across the rack.

Voltage and Amperage Metering

Two meters on the front panel report the incoming line voltage and the total current the rack is drawing. The voltage reading makes a sagging or unstable circuit easy to spot, while the amperage reading shows how heavily the rack is loaded. Reading both at once helps you balance gear across a circuit and avoid overloading it. Status LEDs and an audible alarm add warnings for grounding faults, polarity, and unsafe voltage.

Time-Delayed Banks Protect Your Monitors

Amplifiers and active monitors pull a large surge of current the moment they switch on, which produces a loud thump. On the PG-2 the analog and high-current banks are time delayed, so those devices always power up last and shut down first. That sequence protects speakers from the transients that wear them down over time. It also makes powering a full rack up or down a single, predictable action.

Surge Protection and Front-Panel Extras

A 2775-joule power absorption rating measures how much surge energy the unit can soak up before it stops shielding your gear. That headroom guards converters, preamps, and monitors against lightning-induced spikes and sudden voltage jumps. A front USB port charges a device without using a wall outlet, and XLR lamp connectors on both the front and rear light the rack. These practical touches round out a serious protection device.

Where the Black Lion PG-2 Fits

Larger project and commercial studios use the PG-2 to power and protect a deep rack of outboard gear. Its separated banks isolate digital from analog devices, and its delayed banks safeguard monitoring on every startup. Two rack spaces and dual metering give engineers a clear view of the power feeding the room. It suits anyone who needs clean, metered, surge-protected power for a demanding rig.
