MADE (and signed inside the active pots cavity) BY IAN WALLER, the founder of Electric Wood Co. and Wal basses.
This bass is one of ONLY 8 or 9 known prototype Wal basses PERSONALLY made by Ian Waller.
Electronics were designed and installed by Pete Stevens - ("Pete the Fish").
BEFORE I STATED THAT:
"First time serviced and later refurbished around 1994(?) by Pete "the Fish" Stevens, (than owner - after the death of Ian Waller) and co-founder of Wal Basses - just months before his death".
It wasn't refurbished - only the values of the trimpots for volume output and amount of attack were adjusted to 50% and maximum level - respectively - as per customer request.
The photo of the letter in description belongs to my other Wal bass mentioned at the end of the listing (sold), but l'll leave the photo (of the letter) handwritten from the designer of Wal electronics (Pete the Fish) as it might be helpful to other Wal owners to learn how to adjust the value of the active trimpots, DI and tone & volume pots.
So, the bass was never "refurbished" as stated previously, only serviced and potentiometers values re-adjusted by the people who designed and made it.
It's in immaculate condition for a nearly 40 years old guitar with (l suppose) wild past.
Been around the word few times, been played by some great names...
Originally custom made for Curtis Ohlson, (bass guitarist for Ray Charles, Buddy Rich and many more), this particular bass has been recorded on more than 50 albums!
The MK1 Mark 1 Pro has active electronics, DI - XLR output (set to 600 ohm).
STAGE READY !
Pro series (till '86) have multicoil pickups (each pickup has two coils per string) and a filter based preamp that gives a tone that is distinct and unique.
Brazilian mahogany core, African padauk faces, and Thai rosewood fretboard.
Serial number: 2436
EXTRA!
In the (non original) hard case pocket l found a bag of Thai rosewood with "dust" or "shavings" from THIS particular neck, (to match the colour l suppose) - a bag of some tiny gelatinous balls marked as a "hide glue" - and a note from Wal that when mixed it can be used as a filler to be used in case if the bass is converted to fretless, to fill the slots after removing the frets.
BTW, frets have been leveled and dressed at some stage and have 99+% life left.
NOTE:
Current waiting time for a Wal CUSTOM bass is (not 3 as previously stated) - but SIX years - (as per their web site), and the prices for a basic - entry level are starting at €9.999 (euros)!
Will be sent from Australia.
Shipping around AU $500 WORLDWIDE.
Price is in AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS!
ANY GENUINE OFFER WILL BE CONSIDERED,
URGENT SALE !!!
P.S.
I'm a musician and rare guitars collector, instruments which belonged to famous musicians or with low serial numbers.
Have another Wal bass (MK1 - Mark 2 - '82 Custom) for sale.
Cheers.
