Novation FLkey Mini: Tiny Controller, Deep FL Studio Workflow

The Novation FLkey Mini is an ultra-compact 25-key mini MIDI keyboard controller built to give FL Studio producers hands-on control in the smallest footprint the line offers. As a controller and not a synthesizer, it has no internal sound engine and makes no sound on its own; it sends MIDI that plays the instruments inside FL Studio. This first-generation Mini focuses on portability and the essential FLkey workflow at an accessible size. For the producer working on a laptop or a crowded desk, it packs real keys and pads into a case you can toss in a bag.

25 Mini Synth-Action Keys

The FLkey Mini uses 25 mini synth-action, velocity-sensitive keys that trade full-size spacing for a very small, light body. Mini keys are shorter and narrower than standard keys, keeping the controller compact while still letting you play melodies, basslines and chords. Velocity sensitivity captures how hard you press so your parts keep natural dynamics. This tiny keybed is ideal for travel and small setups, though players who want full-size keys should consider the FLkey 37 or larger models.

A Controller with No Internal Sound Engine

Because the FLkey Mini is a control surface, its keys, pads and knobs transmit MIDI to shape sounds that live inside your software rather than generating audio themselves. A MIDI controller turns your playing into data, so the sound comes from FL Studio's synths, samplers and effects, not the hardware. This keeps the Mini lightweight and flexible, since it can drive any instrument you load without being locked to one voice. For a laptop producer, the controller is the tactile front end for software that makes the sound.

Deep FL Studio Integration

The FLkey Mini integrates deeply with FL Studio, controlling the Channel Rack, Mixer and plugins directly the moment you connect it. Deep integration means the hardware maps itself to the software automatically, so pads, knobs and transport already know their roles with no manual setup. You can browse sounds, program beats and adjust the mix from the controller rather than the mouse. This focused workflow is the main reason FL Studio users choose an FLkey over a generic mini keyboard.

Scale Mode, Fixed Chord Mode and Arpeggiator

The FLkey Mini includes Scale Mode, a fixed Chord Mode and an arpeggiator that make musical playing easy even on mini keys, though this first-generation Mini does not have an OLED display. Scale Mode maps the keys so only notes in your chosen scale sound, making wrong notes nearly impossible, while the fixed Chord Mode fires a set chord shape from a single key. The arpeggiator turns a held chord into a rhythmic pattern automatically. These aids let a beatmaker who does not play piano still lay down convincing melodies and chords fast.

16 RGB Pads, MIDI Out and USB-C Power

Sixteen velocity-sensitive RGB pads handle beats, clips and step sequencing, and a 3.5mm TRS minijack MIDI output connects external hardware synths and drum machines. The controller runs on USB-C bus power from a single cable, making it a true grab-and-go tool with no separate adapter. A 6-month FL Studio Producer Edition trial plus bundled sounds and lessons helps new producers start creating immediately. This mix of portability, focused control and connectivity makes the FLkey Mini an easy travel companion.
