Description:
For many years I’ve built the 5F2A Tweed Princeton on a custom basis and now I’m offering it as a regular build but with some extras to give you even more tone. The Tweed Princeton is the Champ’s slightly bigger brother and is little more versatile due to the tone control onboard. Great 50’s tones for blues, rock n’ roll and country. it’s a wonderful recording amp. I’ve upgraded the amp to have 10” speaker rather than small sounding 8” speaker. It also can use a 6V6, 6L6 types, or a 5881. They will all produce 5W but will allow you to tailor the tone to your needs. It’s a fabulous recording and practice amp and great for small gigs. For players who no low volume cranked tweed tone I’d recommend looking at my Tweed Recording Pro which has London Power Scaling on board.
I offer the amp with few different speaker options to suit different player’s needs. The Alnico 10 will give a classic 50’s tone with lots of warmth and low headroom. The ceramic speakers has headroom and fullness but is very much a classic sound. The Weber Michigan is an EV type speaker and will give you maximum headroom and a warm smooth top end.
All my amps are built with many years of experience and expert craftsmanship. This no paint by numbers clone or cheap knock off. It will exceed any original example with better parts and better construction.
Features:
5W of all tube power, Volume and Tone controls, High and Low Inputs for different tones, 10” Jensen P10R Alnico Speaker, finger jointed fine cabinet.
Parts: Custom wound transformers, Vishay, Panasonic, Polyprop tone caps Switchcraft and Cliff Jacks, Special Resistor Selection for low noise, High End Tube Sockets, new or re-coned combos are finger joined pine.
Customer Comments:
"Carl,
I meant to send this message to you before but maybe it's fitting that I am sending it about a year from receiving the Tweed Princeton Head.
I wanted to let you know that I am thrilled with this amp head. Without question this amp has transformed my relationship with the electric guitar, no doubt.
As an acoustic player, I had, over time, come to the conclusion that the electric guitar was never going to be something I could fully connect with. I had played the electric guitar in a few bands, I had had other tube amps, tried different speakers, different tubes etc. yet still, despite trying to connect with the electric guitar it just never happened. It always felt like there were two things happening, what I was doing "here" on the instrument and what was happening "over there" with an amp, the relationship felt mediated and the conversation wasn't natural. The opposite of the acoustic.
Then I plugged into this head and immediately that changed. Night and day.
It was so responsive and articulate that the instrument and that amp felt like one, working together. All of a sudden the musicality and overtone content made sense. It was woody and rich and expressive, and what I was playing and what I was hearing clicked. It was inspiring. I could physically feel the difference. For the first time the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar were not as far apart to me. Now, I have played through this head almost every day since. I have not plugged into any other amp for a year. I even found myself referencing this amp head when describing the sound of an old Martin the other day, which would have been unheard of before. Maybe this all sounds crazy and over the top but I thought I'd let you know, this head completely changed what an electric guitar can be, and what an amp should be. I could not be happier.
As a singer/songwriter I am still primarily an acoustic player but this amp has totally changed my views on playing the electric and opened up a whole new world for me. Things that never felt accessible before are now available in plenty.
Thank you. "

"Carl
The amp sounds great. I tried a basic tele through it today. If time allows tomorrow, I will try a 59 RI Les Paul. The quality and expertise in the build is evident but the sound is what it is really all about. Just a wonderful sound in a small and manageable package!
I will let you know more as I put it through its paces. Love it! Thanks man.

“I played through it for an hour or more and everything is working perfectly. I’m loving this one already and it sounds great! Between the Octal and this classic Princeton, I’m in tonal heaven. Thanks again for the quick turnaround and for the new jewel light. You’ve made an old man very proud to own two heirloom quality Carl’s Custom Amps! “

“Hey Carl
Just a heads up on my amp..
I cannot tell you how much I love this amp!
warm, fat and since I swapped reverb pedals ,quiet as a mouse..
I now use a J. Rockett Boing single knob reverb..perfect for this amp..
I haven't even tried that alternate tube you sent..
thanks again
you are a genius with these gadgets for sure!
Rick”
