Up for sale is a 1987 Guild D30 built in Westerly, Rhode Island. It has a highly figured flame maple neck. One of the best I have ever seen on a guild that wasn't a top of the line model. The back and sides have some great flame maple figure as well. The top is Sitka spruce, with a Rosewood bridge and fretboard. I would rate the condition good to fair, for the heavy ware spot by the pickguard, and the low saddle. Here are the things I want to address about the guitar's condition.
Throughout the guitar, it has various dings, dents, scratches, scuffs, and swirls. None of them are very noticeable when overlooking the whole guitar but for the heavy ware spot by the fretboard. The binding is in good condition overall, but there are a couple of spots that have chipped off the nitro finish. Very common for older guilds. There are a couple of spots where the binding was reglued, and there is a slight visual gap, but when looked at closer, it is filled with glue and is very secure to the body. No binding is loose, or coming unglued, or missing in any spots. I am not sure if the neck heel is original, but it looks great in my opinion with the extra trim. The top has weather checking in several areas. Most of it is only visible from certain angles and under certain lighting. I have included pics of the weather checks in the listing photos. The bridge is tightly glued down to the sitka top with no bridge lift. The saddle is low, and maybe only has one more adjustment left in it where it could be lowered slightly. Right now the guitar plays great, and the string action is nice and low. It could remain in that position for years to come, but once the saddle has been lowered one more time, the next adjustment will require a neck reset. Right now, the guitar does not need a reset, but I wanted the next owner to know that it could need one on down the road. The chrome Grover tuners are in good working condition and are original. The pick up works, but when i plugged it in to play, I got a little humming through my amp. When i twisted my guitar cable, the hum stopped, then started again. So it could just be my chord, or the end pin jack may need a check up and adjustment. The original guild guitar deluxe case is in fine working condition, but the outside has many cosmetic flaws. The handle and latches all work properly. The inside liner of the case is in great condition. The hinges may need a slight adjustment because when you open the case, the lid wants to close back up and not rest in the open position. Very minor issue, but i always want to list everything i see about my guilds. There is some fretware in the 2nd and 3rd fret along the B and E strings. It does not cause any notes to be muted or buzzy. The metal frets along the B string show ware signs in the first few frets.
Overall this is a great guild that plays and sounds great. I am going to list it at a lower than normal price due to the issues that I have listed above. This guitar is ready to played and enjoyed right out of the box. It needs no immediate work. If not for the low saddle, this guitar would list at 1000-1200 dollars, and with the highly desired flame neck, it could bring an extra 100. This guild will be a great player for the touring musician, or for the guy who prefers to play at home. There is a ton of life left in this guitar, and it's ready to serve it's next owner for decades to come.
The only guitars I buy, sell, and collect are older guild acoustics. I have many other great guilds listed for sale, and I am adding new guilds to my inventory every week. Please message me with any and all offers, questions, or request for additional pictures. I prefer to sell my guilds privately to save the buyer and seller money, so message me if you are interested. Thanks for looking!!
