Classic Tone - The Gibson Hummingbird Standard EC Acoustic Guitar with Heritage Cherry Sunburst Finish

First introduced in 1960 as Gibson’s inaugural square-shoulder acoustic, the iconic Hummingbird has earned its place among the most beloved acoustic guitars ever produced, finding favor with players from every era and musical style. The Hummingbird Standard EC builds on that legacy by incorporating a cutaway design that provides easier access to the upper frets. It also features the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system, faithfully capturing the instrument’s distinctive tonal character and the subtleties of your performance with remarkable authenticity when amplified.

Like the Hummingbird Standard, the Hummingbird Standard EC combines a solid Sitka spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides. Scalloped X-bracing helps shape its responsive voice, while multi-ply binding accents the classic square-shoulder body design. This time-tested construction is equally at home driving rhythm parts in a rock’n’roll setting or supporting the dynamic expression of today’s singer-songwriters. A gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish completes the guitar’s timeless appearance.

The addition of a cutaway opens up improved access to the higher frets, making the Hummingbird Standard EC especially appealing to lead players and anyone seeking an expanded playing range and greater expressive possibilities. Its mahogany neck features a comfortable Slim Taper profile and is paired with a bound rosewood fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays. A rosewood belly-up bridge equipped with a TUSQ saddle works in conjunction with a bone nut and Grover Rotomatic tuners for dependable performance. The tortoiseshell-colored pickguard showcases the renowned Hummingbird graphics that have made this model instantly recognizable to generations of guitarists and music lovers alike.

Internally, the Hummingbird Standard EC is equipped with the Gibson-exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system. This active design utilizes two lightweight sensors mounted to the bridge plate and pairs them with dedicated, optimized preamps. The result is a rich amplified acoustic sound that accurately reflects the instrument’s natural character without affecting its unplugged voice. The Baggs HiFi DNA system also delivers gain-before-feedback performance comparable to an under-saddle pickup. Convenient soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls are easy to reach during performance while remaining discreetly out of sight. Blending the celebrated versatility and unmistakable style of the Hummingbird with the added benefits of a cutaway design, the Hummingbird Standard EC is equally prepared for the stage or the studio and ships in a hardshell case.
