Conn Alto Sax – Shooting Star – 1965 – Plays a Scale, Pads Look On – Priced to Sell
This is a Conn Shooting Star alto sax, serial H42680, dating it to 1965. These are Conn’s classic Director‑series student/intermediate horns, built solid and known for dependable playability.
I was able to play a scale and it played, so it’s at least functioning as‑is. Like any older sax, it may need work or may not depending on your expectations — selling as‑is.
I took close‑up photos of the pads and they look ON. Even the low note “gutter key” pad (held open in the photos) looks good. Lacquer shows normal age but nothing alarming.
- Condition Notes
- Pads look good from inspection
- Low note pad looks good
- Played a scale successfully
- May need adjustment depending on player preference
- Selling as‑is, priced to move
- 1 latch on case works fine other is note closing as case is bent. Super heavy duty case and I can't even hardly get it to bend and stretch to get it to close. You can stand on the case and the sax is not effected. We will try to get latch closed to ship it.
About the Model
Conn’s Shooting Star logo appears on their Director 14M/16M line — sturdy, reliable horns for students and advancing players. Not a collector piece, but a great working sax with vintage Conn character.
