Atkin's L36 is a parlour guitar, one of the smallest acoustic body shapes. It is Alister Atkin's take on the 1936 parlours that became part of American folk and blues. This one has a black top, a Heavy Aged finish, and Fishman Matrix VT electronics already fitted.
Atkin guitars are handmade in Canterbury, Kent, by Alister Atkin and his team. Atkin has baked its tops since 2011. Baking (torrefaction) reduces moisture and crystallises the resins in the wood. Atkin did it to make the tops more stable, and it mimics a process that happens naturally over many years. The tops and bracing are baked, the bracing is hand-scalloped, and the finish is a very thin nitrocellulose lacquer, which Atkin ages by hand. Heavy Aged is their most worn-in look, and it's done at the factory, so the guitar is brand new and unplayed.
