Gibson Custom Early J50 Torrified Sitka Spruce Mahogany
The Custom Shop Gibson J50 Early 50s Golden Era guitar features details inspired by Gibson's golden age. Its classic "Workhorse" materials include a specially selected Sitka spruce top and premium-grade mahogany back and sides.
The Gibson J50 shares the same characteristics as the famous J45 but features a natural finish instead of a sunburst. Artists such as Bob Dylan and James Taylor popularized this model with its more minimalist aesthetic during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Vintage J50 acoustic guitars can be harder to find because the spruce used for the top must be free of mineral streaks or knots; otherwise, imperfections would show through the translucent finish. The J45 utilizes the same classic tonewood combination: a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck, and a rosewood fingerboard and bridge.
The multi-ply top binding and single-ply back binding are intentionally understated; the smooth, vintage-style finish and vintage-style tuners further accentuate the guitar's 1950s look. The J50 is handcrafted at the Custom Shop in Montana, USA, drawing inspiration from the iconic guitars Gibson produced during its golden age in the 1950s.
This guitar has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
