Late-'60s(1968-1969) Fender Paisley Red Telecaster Bass — Player-Grade Vintage with Real MojoThe finish you can't fake.

This body isn't a paint job. It carried a paisley-patterned sheet laid over the wood and then shot with color — that's the actual construction, and it's why the look has a depth no modern decal can touch. Nearly 60 years on, plenty of these have checked, cracked, and settled into something you just don't get from a fresh reissue. This is honest vintage, not a reproduction.

The build & the voice

It follows the first-generation Precision Bass formula — dead-simple, one single-coil pickup, nothing in the way between you and the amp. Compared to a standard Precision running a split-coil, this one is more natural and straightforward — open, uncomplicated, and it lets the bass breathe. The tone is rich and powerful, and it's genuinely its own thing: not a Precision, not a Jazz, but a voice you only get from this build.

Condition

  • Finish & body: The checking and paint flaking this model is known for, all over — a faded reddish hue that reads pure vintage. The body top carries one screw hole near the 4th string, which looks to be where a thumb rest was once mounted.
  • Neck: Refinished in lacquer, which means the headstock logo was re-decaled. No noticeable warp or twist. The truss rod works freely in both directions — verified.
  • Frets: Refretted with a wire close to the original spec, with roughly 70–80% of fret life remaining. (See note below.)
  • Electronics: Clean and functional. Pots are quiet — no scratchiness or crackle.
  • Case: Original hard case included (logo emblem missing).

Replaced / non-original parts

  • Nut
  • Frets (see note)
  • Jack
  • Some wiring
  • Two bridge saddles
  • Two knobs
  • Two strap pins
  • Pickup cover
  • Bridge cover (ashtray)
  • Thumb rest
  • Some screws

Other notes: Several marks on the body show the strap pins have been repositioned. There are signs the bridge was replaced at some point, though the bridge plate on it right now is original. The pickup itself is the original unit.

The result is a bass that's fully sorted and plays great — a real workingman's vintage instrument with the wear and the story to match.
