This is a Gibson ES-135 Vintage Sunburst 1991
While adopting the same 16-inch body size and shape as the Gibson ES-175, the ES-135 features a semi-acoustic construction with a center block, a slightly thinner body, and a Florentine cutaway. Originally introduced in 1956 as a renamed ES-130, production ended after only two years. However, a significantly redesigned reissue was produced in 1991.
This particular guitar is an ES-135 VS, manufactured in 1991, the first year of that reissue. It weighs 3.69kg and is finished in Vintage Sunburst.
It features a maple body, a three-piece maple neck, and a rosewood fingerboard, all laminated like the ES-175. The archtop body with F-holes and the sunburst finish give it a traditional look. It features an adjustable bridge directly mounted to the top, combined with a trapeze tailpiece. Simple dot inlays and a 14° headstock angle are also distinctive features (normally 17°).
The pickups are what appear to be original "P-100s," stacked humbucking pickups developed to reduce noise while maintaining the same size as "P-90s." The tuners are a Kluson vintage-type, while the center block is made of balsa wood called Chromite. The semi-hollow construction and thin body provide resistance to feedback, making it a user-friendly semi-acoustic guitar even with drive from an amp. When actually played, it doesn't sound like a typical humbucker; it's more like a less noisy version of a P90.
It has a rich, resonant sound, a solid feel characteristic of semi-acoustics, and prioritizes ease of use—a perfect balance of features. Owning this guitar gives off a sophisticated vibe. Considering it's 35 years old, it's in remarkably good condition. Highly recommended.
