Selling a Yamaha DX21 4-operator FM synthesizer as a non-working parts/repair unit.

The synth powers on, but it currently does not produce sound, and the display shows unusual solid/block-style characters rather than normal startup text.

When I purchased it, the CR2032 memory battery had been removed. I installed a removable battery holder and a fresh battery in case that was contributing to the problem, but it did not resolve the issue. At that point I stopped troubleshooting, as I don’t have the time or expertise to take the repair further.

Cosmetic / physical notes:

• Plastic endcaps are not included
• Missing one slider knob
• The metal chassis is slightly bent at the ends
• The top panel and face are in very nice condition, including the buttons, which often show significant wear on DX21s
• The keybed is in excellent condition for its age

This would make a very useful parts donor for another DX21, or potentially a repair project for someone comfortable troubleshooting vintage digital synths.
