Vintage 1989 BOSS HM-2 Heavy Metal Distortion – Black Label – Made in Taiwan

Original-production BOSS HM-2 Heavy Metal distortion pedal, Made in Taiwan, with the original black bottom label and ACA power specification.

Serial number: FA53821, which dates this example to approximately August 1989 based on the BOSS alphanumeric serial-number system. Because some early Taiwan-production BOSS pedals used transitional serial numbering, the date is presented as approximate.

This is the original vintage HM-2, not the modern HM-2W Waza Craft reissue.

The HM-2 was produced from 1983–1991 and became legendary for its aggressive distortion character and the famous Swedish death-metal “chainsaw” sound. Beyond the all-knobs-maxed setting, the Level, Color Mix Low, Color Mix High and Distortion controls provide a surprisingly wide range of vintage heavy distortion tones.

The pedal shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with its age, including scratches, scuffs and small areas of paint wear. The original graphics remain clearly visible, all four knobs are present, and the original black BOSS/ACA Made in Taiwan bottom label remains intact.

I have also included photos of the internal PCB and battery-compartment serial label so buyers can inspect the actual circuit and construction. The electronics appear consistent with a vintage HM-2 and I do not see any obvious modifications, but I am not representing every individual electronic component as verified factory-original.
