Jackson Soloist 1984 (J0094 - Low Serial number) Jeff Beck Tribute - Bunker409 #003 “Beck & Tina” - Kahler 2300 & Antiquity Texas Hots
Jeff Beck’s extraordinary pink 1983 Jackson Soloist, serial number J0028, became one of the defining instruments of his mid-1980s period. Delivered to Beck by Grover Jackson in December 1983, it was used extensively during the Private Dancer sessions, Mick Jagger’s She’s The Boss and Beck’s own Flash. Neck-through, 24-fret, Kahler-equipped and loaded with Seymour Duncan Alnico II pickups, the guitar later acquired one of its most recognizable details when Tina Turner scratched her name directly into the finish. Bunker409 #003 “Beck & Tina” Tribute takes that instrument, its history and that unmistakable mark as its point of reference.
The foundation is significant in its own right: an authentic white 1984 Jackson Soloist, serial number J0094, built only about a year after Beck’s J0028 and belonging to the same early J-serial era documented in surviving Jackson factory records, now digitized and publicly searchable through The Music Zoo’s 1983-1985 Jackson Serial Number Archive. These guitars come from a period when Jackson was essentially operating as a custom-order shop, with individual instruments built around customer specifications rather than the standardized model hierarchy that would follow. With its early Soloist shape, dot inlays, neck-through construction and 24-fret layout, J0094 carries historical significance before any component of this project is considered.
With J0094 as the starting point, the objective was to develop its own identity rather than dress it up as J0028. The white body is paired with an original 1980s Kahler 2300 Gold and Kahler locking nut, gold Gotoh tuning machines, matching controls, switches and hardware, while the black Jackson headstock preserves its unmistakable early-1980s character. Three aged-white Seymour Duncan Antiquity Texas Hot single-coils provide the voice, with Alnico II magnets, an RWRP middle pickup and a hotter bridge. The Alnico II specification provides a deliberate connection to Beck’s guitar, while the Antiquity set brings a warmer, vintage Strat-derived character into a 24-fret neck-through Jackson.
The electronics take that idea further. Instead of following the five-way switching of J0028, each Antiquity Texas Hot has its own independent ON/OFF mini-toggle, feeding a master volume and master tone through 250K CTS controls. Neck, middle and bridge can operate individually, in any two-pickup combination, or all three simultaneously. This also provides neck + bridge and three-pickup combinations unavailable from a conventional Strat-style five-way switch, significantly expanding the palette without complicating the circuit. “BECK & TINA” is scratched directly into the finish as the final visual connection, intentionally physical and imperfect rather than applied as a decal or polished graphic.
The result is Bunker409 #003 “Beck & Tina” Tribute, an instrument that carries an unmistakable reference without surrendering its own identity. Its genuine early J-series origins, neck-through construction and period Kahler architecture remain fundamentally Jackson, while the aged Alnico II singles, independent switching and white-and-gold execution take the Soloist somewhere considerably less familiar. Final assembly, technical implementation and setup were carried out by Vincent Guitars in The Netherlands, with the project completed in August 2026.
The guitar is accompanied by its period-correct Jackson hardshell case. It has seen substantial use, carries the scars expected from its age and no longer retains its exterior Jackson logo, but remains fully functional and belongs naturally with an instrument of this period. Project documentation is also included. This is not a cheap replica of a famous guitar, nor does it attempt to pass as one. It is a one-off tribute built from an authentic 1984 J-series Soloist with its own provenance, specification and personality - carefully conceived, professionally executed and, as every proper Jackson should be, extremely sharp.
