Rogers custom 60's - blue onyx

This is a unique Rogers drum set I put together back in the early 80’s or so.  It is an Elvin Jones inspired set with a 16 inch bass drum.  It is great for bebop work or small venues, as its footprint is compact.  The color is “blue onyx”.  It has been all over the world on various stages and on boats.  I put it together using then available Rogers parts from the 60’s.  I am now semi-retired, and haven’t been on the road much anymore (and don’t plan to).  I haven’t used this much recently, and now it is time to part with it.  I am hoping that someone will want the whole set in its entirety.  I really don’t want to sell it off piecemeal.  I am asking $1800.

Some of the pictures show the set with cymbals to show how it looks all set up.  I am not selling the cymbals, just the drums all the hardware, and some cases too.

The bass drum is a converted Rogers Dayton era 16x16 in. floor tom, Serial No, 106173.  It has the typical speckled gray interior paint. It has a wooden floor lift that works well.  The drum has actual bass drum heads and sounds great.  It fits into a case I had made special for it, and the lift can stay attached.  

The large tom is a Rogers Dayton era 9x13 drum, serial no. 86924.  It has the solid gray paint. It actually has two Rogers script metal badges on the outside (not sure why).

The small tom is an 8x10 in. drum that I had made by drum maker Jack Lawton of Pennsylvania.  He did a great job, and used all authentic Rogers hardware and construction.  It sounds great with this set and matches the other drums perfectly.

The snare drum is a Rogers Cleveland 5x14 in, Powertone drum, SN 12914, with the solid gray interior paint. It too sounds great.  It is all original except for the heads.

All the hardware for this set includes the swivomatic holders on the bass drum, the bass drum and hi hat pedals, the cymbal stand, the snare stand and the throne with backrest.  All are 60’s era Rogers, 99% authentic.  Over the years a few screws and fittings may have been replaced so some things may have been updated to keep the set functioning.  Also, there may be a small amount of corrosion here and there, but I can guarantee that everything works just fine.  

I had two cases made by Pro Drum in Hollywood.  These are included.  One holds the bass drum complete with the wooden lift.  The other holds the two toms together, as the pictures show.  Unfortunately, during one cartage episode, the tom case became cracked as one of the pictures shows.  However, the case did its job and protected the drums, which suffered no damage.  I believe that this crack could be fixed with gorilla tape or something similar.

I also included a pic of me playing the set on Aug 2, 2026 at a downtown Los Angeles street fair. It sounded great!

I am asking $1800 for everything you see in the pictures (except cymbals). I am located in the Los Angeles area. If shipping is required, then that would require another conversation.

I am hopeful that a new owner will enjoy playing this drum set as much as I did!
