NTP 179-170 Stereo Compressor / Limiter / Expander – Danish Broadcast Classic

Up for sale is an NTP 179-170, the dual-channel 19" 1U version of NTP's 179-160 dynamics processor, made in Denmark. It combines three instruments in one: a limiter for high-level signals, a mid-range compressor/expander for the desired dynamic range, and a low-level expander to keep noise down. It is built around NTP's own high-quality VCA module, which allows extensive filtering of the control voltage. That is widely credited for its distinctive sound.

• Threshold, ratio (1.3–10), attack (ms range) and recovery time with AUTO (program-dependent) release
• Gate/low-level expander with Slow/Medium/Fast gate time
• Front-panel preset trims for limiter threshold, reference level, output level and gate function

• Hard bypass per channel

The 179-170 is rarely offered and comes from the same family as the famous 179-120. It works equally well as a transparent bus compressor and as a creative expander.
