Stefan Sobell is a highly respected British luthier best known for his handcrafted acoustic guitars, citterns, octave mandolins, bouzoukis, and mandolins. He began building instruments in the early 1970s and made instrument making his full-time profession in 1975 after moving to the countryside. His innovative designs and distinctive tonal qualities have earned him an international reputation among folk, acoustic, and traditional musicians.

Sobell’s instruments have been played by notable artists including Martin Simpson and Mark Knopfler. With more than five decades of experience, he is widely regarded as one of the leading contemporary makers of acoustic stringed instruments.
