Fender Mustang bass 1967

Fender Mustang Bass pickups and pickguard.

The pickups are from 1967, the pickguard is from 76.

Pickups work great, pickguard is in good condition but someone modded the pickguard where the truss rod is for easy access.

The 1967 Fender Mustang Bass features a unique, passive, split-coil pickup design, often featuring grey-bottom or black-bottom bobbins with Alnico 5 magnets. These pickups are lauded for a "throbbing" and clear tone, utilizing a specialized, intentionally out-of-phase wiring for hum-cancelling. The pickup is split to cover E-A and D-G strings, providing a focused, punchy sound.

• Construction: Often gray-bottom flatwork, though black-bottoms exist in the era, with wax potting.

• Bobbin Color: By 1967, gray bottom bobbins were common, but black bottoms were also used.

• Pickup Initials: "AY" initials (for Abigail Ybarra) are sometimes found on pickups from this period.
