A 1933 Martin 0-17 is a classic pre-war small-bodied acoustic guitar from C. F. Martin & Co.’s Depression-era lineup. It features an all-mahogany body (top, back and sides) with a compact “0” (parlor) size and a 14-fret neck, which was a relatively new design change at the time. These guitars were lightly built with scalloped bracing and **bar frets, giving them a warm, resonant, woody tone that’s especially responsive for fingerstyle and roots playing while still delivering surprising volume for their size. Many surviving examples still have original finishes and hardware, and they’re prized for their focused midrange, open bass response, and vintage character that’s hard to replicate in modern instruments.
