Eugen Gartner was active during the first half of the 20th century. He is renowned for his high-quality, handcrafted instruments — violins, violas, and cellos — and received numerous awards at exhibitions.

Eugen Gärtner (1845–1945) was one of the most respected German luthiers, working in Stuttgart, Germany. He established his own workshop around 1870, which quickly gained a reputation for outstanding craftsmanship. His instruments were inspired by the classical models of Stradivari and Guarneri, and are often distinguished by their mature tone and beautiful appearance.

Characteristics of Eugen Gärtner's violins:

He used premium Balkan maple for the backs — the wood is highly flamed and evenly textured.

The tops were made from dense spruce with fine, straight grain.

The varnish is typically a golden-orange or reddish-brown, applied thinly and very evenly, as seen on this violin.

The sound of his instruments is warm, open, and has great projection.

Condition of the instrument: Very good, with original varnish and minimal signs of use.

Special features: Beautiful, highly flamed back, precisely cut ff-holes, and a richly noble varnish color.
