The Big Muff Pi, a fuzz pedal that debuted around 1969, had a second model nicknamed "Ram's Head." This model got its nickname from the fact that the logo, a woman's face depicted on the lower right of the enclosure, resembles a lamb's head. Because of variations in parts between individual units, each pedal has a different sound, making it a popular model with many collectors.

This particular Ram's Head is believed to be a unit shipped around 1973, based on its internal parts and specifications. The power ON/OFF switch is marked only as "ON," indicating it's an early model. There are three holes on the back panel that appear to be for routing wiring, the control knobs have been replaced, and the casing shows signs of use such as rust and scratches, giving it the feel of a vintage instrument.

This guitar features four rare 2N3565 transistors, an early specification. The circuit's aging characteristics have been compensated for by adding capacitors and resistors. The tone control is highly effective, allowing you to enjoy the wide sound shaping characteristic of the Ram's Head.

This pedal boasts the raw power and rich harmonics characteristic of discrete circuitry from the mid-1970s, with deep, resonant low-mids, smooth sustain, and a well-defined fuzz distortion. Beyond extreme distortion, the thickness of strummed chords and the sustain of single notes evoke the powerful presence of the Big Muff that underpinned hard rock and progressive rock of that era. Enjoy the impressive sound that only an old drumhead can deliver.
