STAR's maple snare drums employ an unprecedented shell construction, producing a sound distinct from conventional maple shells. This shell construction features a central "core ply" made of thicker 2mm wood, sandwiched between two 1.5mm plies of maple on the inside and outside. This combination of core ply and plywood provides exceptional strength, allowing us to achieve the sound characteristics of solid-ply shells, which tend to be thicker, in an extremely thin 5mm shell.
The newly designed lugs are small and bridge-type, minimizing the contact area with the shell. The smaller lugs not only lighten the snare drum body, but also reduce the number of parts, further opening up the shell's inherent potential and enhancing resonance.
