You know the amps.  The Mesa Boogie Mark series - starting with the Mark IIC+ and onwards.  The classic 5-band EQ that is synonymous with these amps and the "Mark tone".

The first question to be asked:   does it use inductors or gyrators?

Short answer: Gyrators.

Longer answer:  we spent countless hours with LT Spice simulating the EQ curves of the inductor based bands and tweaking the gyrators to get as close as possible to the shape of the inductor based responses.   We also did a deep dive into some old technical articles, data sheets, and textbooks and found some more tricks that have been lost to time on how to make gyrator-based EQs sound more "musical" and "smooth".   All of these learnings and discoveries have been implemented into the VEQ (as well as the 5-band EQ in the Trinity Deluxe and the 7-Band EQ in the Super 400!)

The pedal operates using a standard boss-style 9VDC regulated power supply and requires a minimum of 125mA. There is over-voltage protection in case you accidentally plug in an 18VDC power connector. The pedal boosts the voltage up to 30V for plenty of headroom and dynamic range, allowing the pedal to play nice with both instrument and line level signals.

The VEQ has the classic EQ frequency bands: 80Hz,  240Hz, 750Hz, 2200Hz, and 6600Hz.  There are also 2 level controls:  pre-EQ and post-EQ.

The traditional use case is in the effects loop of your amp.  This will have the most dramatic impact on your overall tone.  Use the Input and Output controls to balance the levels.  (secret trick:  dime the input level and overdrive the EQ section for some extra "hair" and then control the overall level with the output control).

The other use case is *in front* of the amp/distortion to sculpt your tone as a boost.  Use the input and output controls to boost the levels, cut the bass, boost the mids, and high end to taste and stand back!
