Up for sale is a Behringer Edison EX1 stereo image processor and phase correlation meter in good working condition, complete with original box. This is a discontinued unit that is increasingly hard to find — and one with a surprisingly illustrious reputation in professional mixing circles.

The Michael Brauer connection

If you follow high-end mix technique at all, you'll know the name. Michael Brauer famously used an Edison on one of his keyboard and harmony buses for width and "movement," proving how useful this processor can be in creative routing. Others have also used it specifically on FX returns to widen reverbs and delays. What it does

The EX1 is a psycho-acoustic processor for total manipulation of spatial content — it releases the untapped stereo resources of any stereo recording and creates and enhances 3D spatial images such as width and depth. Fully mono compatible, with an accurate phase correlation meter to measure any recording for mono compatibility. Electro-Music

Five controls give you hands-on, tactile control over the stereo field: Stereo Spread, LMF Spread, Balance, Center Distance, and Output Gain. You can widen or narrow the stereo spread, bring instruments to the front or push them to the background, and make corrections to the stereo image — even on a finished master. Reverb

The phase correlation meter is a bonus tool in its own right: in bypass mode it can be used independently of the stereo enhancement system, making it useful for mono-compatibility checking on any stereo source. Worthpoint

Reed relays provide a hard bypass that also acts as a failsafe in the event of a power failure, with a cut-in delay to avoid switch-on thumps. Servo-balanced inputs and outputs on both XLR and ¼" jack. Electro-Music
