Boss DD-3 guitar effects pedal with our Hi-Cut mod.
All of our modified pedals are warrantied as new!
Today delays are getting better. Maybe even a little too good! The repeats are crisp and crystal clear, exactly like the original sound. Someone has worked hard to get that sound, but I’m about to tell you this is not necessarily always a good thing.
I remember my first delay. It was called an analog delay I think. I had to walk 5 miles uphill in the snow to get it. Then, I had to walk another 5 miles uphill in the snow just to get it back home. And I loved it!
The old analog delays may not have been quite as crispy clear on the repeats, but there was one good thing about them. The sound blended very well. The new digital delays have a very clear repeat that is great for a lot of sounds. But sometimes it seems the repeats cover up your original lick. Wouldn't it be nice to have an option to take the edge off of the repeats, so as to have a more blended/analog sound?
This one is the model made before 2010. That’s the year Boss changed the circuitry. The DD-3 model is most preferred, and I can also do the High-Cut mod on this one. This mod takes a little treble off of each repeat (cuts a little high frequency each time). This way you get the clearness of the newer delays, and also the option for the blended sound that is sorely missed from the older analog delays. When using the Hi-Cut options your original notes remain more well-defined.
No permanent changes are made to this delay. We installed a 3-way toggle switch that will give you 3 options:
1) Flip the switch to the left for when you would like a little bit of cut on the treble of those repeating sounds for a slightly warmer sound.
2) Flip the switch to the right when you would like a little more of a cut on those high frequency sounds on the repeats for the warmest setting. This makes the pedal sound more like the delays I played through back in the 70’s.
3) Switch to the center to restore your delay to its original factory settings.
Pretty simple, huh?
And if you notice, we put the 3-way toggle switch on the front instead of on the side. Why? Because having a toggle switch on the side of a pedal sucks!
"We make your sounds… sound good!"
