So, when it comes to true accuracy and mastering level digital playback, historically only three companies have been the choice of the greats - Prism Sound, dCS and Lavry. The Prism Dream DA-2 stands above the rest, and is pricey and unobtanium, and unserviceable if it develops an issue. Lavrys are more ubiquitou, yet newer ones are different than the original ‘ladder’ builds due to parts. dCS was the choice of Masterdisk and Bob Ludwig / Gateway Mastering, and can still be serviced by dCS to this day if issues arise. New dCS digital equipment easily surpasses $20k for basic models in the audiophile market.
