This is 2011 Bacchus BSG-STD SG Standard model from their Classic series of guitars. This small batch run of guitars from Bacchus in 2011 and 2012 is well known and highly sought after by both players & collectors of MIJ guitars.
Every time I get a Bacchus in my shop, I am always impressed by the build quality of these guitars. They are some of the best I've had from Japan from any era - to me, they are on par, if not better, than the best vintage MIJ guitars I have owned from Greco, Aria, Burny and Tokai, etc...
Finished in a rarely seen and absolutely beautiful gloss Brown lacquer finish - I've only seen a few in this colour. This is by far one of my favourite colour SG's, at times it's a very dark brown, almost black in certain light, and other times there's a bit of red or purple in the finish. It reminds me of the mid to late 90's Gibson cherry that was dark - not quite as red/purple as those, but similar "vibe".
Even with the dark finish, you can see that this one is made with a beautiful selection of African mahogany: a 2 piece centre seam body mated to a 1 piece neck, with a lovely smooth rosewood fingerboard, and acrylic amber trapezoid inlays.
All of the components on this guitar are top shelf - including the nickel Gotoh hardware, CTS inch standard pots, vitamin Q paper in oil tone capacitors, Switchcraft 3 way switch, nickel metal output jack plate, cloth wire, and perfectly cut nylon nut and bridge saddles. These features alone are rarely seen on Japanese made guitars, and only on the high end models.
This BSG-STD is all original, and is very good condition. There are a couple dings and dents in the finish here and there, and a few scratches in the lacquer, 2 small chips in the finish on the bass side of the lower bout, and a few areas in the finish that are cloudy or worn, but overall it's in very good shape.
All of nickel hardware, including the pickup covers & pole pieces, bridge, tailpiece, tuners, switch and screws and they are all in great shape, with only minor tarnish and have a consistent patina. Everything works as expected.
The original Bacchus BHH neck and bridge pickups sound fantastic - they are quiet, and can handle lots of gain well, but clean up just as good. The neck is a lower wind pickup, coming in around a typical or slightly hot PAF at 7.90K ohm, while the bridge is much hotter coming in at 14.12K ohm. To my ears, they sound fantastic, and can handle any genre you through at it. The bridge pickup is much hotter than the neck pickup, but they balance out well in this guitar. I didn't remove the covers to see the bobbin colour or the magnets used.
The neck on this is a joy to play on - it's wide with a thick and comfortable C neck carve that fills the hand nicely - starting out at 22.5mm at the 1st fret and making its way up to 24.9mm by the 12th fret. To m hand, this feels a lot like the Gibson '50's Rounded C profile.
Most '61 style SG models have thing neck, so this is what is unique about the Bacchus BSG-STD - if you want a '61 style SG, with a fat '50s style neck, then you'll love this Bacchus.
The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, with minor play wear across the board, mainly on the plain strings on frets 1-9, but overall there is lots of life left in these frets, and this guitar plays excellent up and down the entire neck.
All the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.
I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).
Comes with a generic non branded black gig bag.
Overall, this is a high quality professional grade guitar made by one of the best guitar factories in the world.
If you're looking for a Japanese made SG of the highest calibre, that looks, play, and sounds incredible, grab this one today!
CONDITION ------------
Overall it's in very good player grade shape.
I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description - if you want more photos or details just let me know.
Over the entire body of the guitar, top, back, sides, neck and headstock, there are a few dents, dings, scratches and minor swirling.
There are a couple chips in the finish on the side of the bass side bout.
There is some cloudiness or or areas that almost look worn on the guitar, mainly on the high E side of the neck by the upper frets, the bottom side of the body by the controls, and the bevel of the bass side.
The nickel hardware, bridge, tailpiece, tuners, screws, pickup covers and pole pieces are all in great shape, with only a minor amount of tarnish - they all have a consistent patina on them.
All of the black plastics have typical scratches, pick marks and swirling on them.
All of the nickel Gotoh SD90-SL Kluson style tuners are straight and work properly.
Around the strap buttons there's some minor strap marks/swirling.
The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, with minor playwear across the board, and overall there is lots of life left in these frets, and the guitar plays well across the entire neck.
The truss rod works as expected, with room in both directions.
There no signs of a heel, headstock or any other repairs.
