Up for sale, a Fender Telecaster, custom built by a Seattle luthier as a tribute to Eric Clapton's Stratocaster/Telecaster hybrid used in Blind Faith. While Fender did make a few Masterbuilt Teles based around Clapton's guitar, this particular instrument is much easier on the wallet and constructed with genuine Fender parts! This guitar weighs in at 7lbs 2oz, with plenty of twang and snap from the American Vintage Tele single coil pickups. Perhaps best remembered from Blind Faith's 1969 Live in Hyde Park album cover, this Tele/Strat hybrid has the vibe of Clapton's classic instrument, with great playability and tone!
The neck is from a "Made in Mexico" standard Stratocaster, which has been refinished with ambered nitro lacquer, with a smooth semi-gloss appearance. The neck has a standard 25 1/2" scale length, medium C shaped profile, and medium jumbo fretwire that shows virtually zero wear. On the headstock, a 1950s "spaghetti" style waterslide Fender decal has been applied to match Clapton's original neck. The tuners turn smoothly, are lightly relic'd, and produced by Gotoh, and these gears are the same tuners used on Fender's USA vintage reissues.
The body was sourced from a Squier Classic Vibe Tele, and the finish was stripped and redone in proper nitro lacquer, with a three-tone suburst from yellow to red to deep black. The pickups are Fender USA "American Vintage" '62 Tele pickups, with black bobbins and waxed cloth wire. The pots are full size CTS 250k, with a Switchcraft three-way pickup selector toggle. The control plate, knurled metal knobs and "Pat. Pending" bridge plate have all been lightly relic'd, and an aged three-ply Fender Japan pickguard rounds out the guitar's look. Cosmetically, the finish shows a scattering of intentional light dings and small spots of wear to round out the relic treatment, but otherwise, this guitar is essentially new, having been barely played since the instrument's completion.
