The blues is a language, and it’s spoken all over the world. Guitarist Ana Popovic started learning it as a girl in one of the most unlikely places: Belgrade, Serbia. After two decades of a busy career with nine solo albums to her name, a Blues Music Award nomination, and slots alongside legends like B.B. King and Buddy Guy, you could say the blues became her native tongue.
She has plenty more to say. Her albums regularly place in Billboard’s Top 5 for the Blues Charts, and last year’s triple LP Trilogy saw guest spots from Joe Bonamassa, Robert Randolph (who recently stopped by to shred for us), and drum legend Bernard Purdie. To top it off, she was invited to pay homage to the original Voodoo Child and play on this year’s Experience Hendrix Tour.
We were lucky enough to grab some time from her hectic schedule so she could stop by and tell us about starting out as a kid in Europe, developing her style, and her favorite pedals. Check out the videos and a full list of her pedalboard staples available on the site.
