This is a vintage STC 4038 ribbon microphone that was used at the BBC in London in the 1950s and 1960s. It is particularly rare as it has a serial number (#958) making it one of the first 4038s ever made.

Note: most 4038s do not have a serial number - this one does.

This is not the modern Coles version, but an original STC from the 1950s. A new ribbon has been installed by Xaudia (a ribbon mic specialist in the UK). It works perfectly.

I bought this from the family of an ex-BBC engineer. He was given it as an award for long service as a studio engineer in the 1970s.
