This 2003 PRS McCarty Hollowbody II is a lightweight, resonant electric guitar rooted in a key chapter of PRS history. The McCarty line was developed in collaboration with Ted McCarty, former Gibson president and one of the most influential figures in electric guitar design. His tenure at PRS in the late ’80s and early ’90s helped shape a line of instruments that emphasize tonal depth, sustain, and build quality.
The Hollowbody II variant—introduced in 1998—adds a fully hollow construction with carved maple top and back, and a mahogany rim. The result is an instrument with a strong acoustic voice, warm midrange, and clear articulation, particularly suited for players who move between jazz, blues, and classic rock styles. PRS’s proprietary Archtop humbuckers offer a focused, airy tone with low noise and excellent note separation.
This example weighs just 2300g, making it noticeably lighter than most solid-body electrics. It features PRS bird inlays on a rosewood fingerboard and has light playwear across the body along with a visible chip on the headstock (see photos). The frets show minimal wear, estimated at 95%. This is an exceptionally resonant guitar that really sings. A prime example of Core line PRS guitar art. It comes with its original case, which is fully functional but visibly worn, and no case candy.
