The Neumann KM 184 is a small-diaphragm condenser microphone built around a pressure-gradient transducer with a capsule derived from the legendary KM 84. It utilizes a cardioid polar pattern, which offers excellent rejection of sound coming from the rear (180° off-axis) while maintaining a uniform frequency response across a wide pickup angle.
Unlike many microphones where off-axis sound becomes muddy or colored, the KM 184 preserves the natural tonal balance of bleed or room reflections.
