Welcome to Kebo's Bass Works. Before buying or selling an instrument, you have and deserve a right to know exactly whom you are dealing with. We are a LICENSED and INSURED business with a state and federal Tax ID. We are not an 'emporium' 'shop' or one of the many bogus, fake-dealers that slickly try to mislead you into believing that you are dealing with a legitimate business enterprise, but you are instead dealing with a fictitious entity. We are a business and businesses are and should be held to a higher standard.
EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT that we sell has a “no questions asked” return policy. We thoroughly describe everything down to the screw. If there is something we really don't like, we won't sell it. If there is something you need to know about, we tell you. When encountering ads, an unsuspecting buyer can encounter 2 types of misleading errors. The first, is lying; for example, the guitar is described as “mint” and “original” when buried deep in the ad it says that the instrument has changed pickups or is refinished. Other buyers encounter the equally unethical error of omission (We call this the Mike From Wisconsin Syndrome); for example, the guitar is in “fair” condition with wear all over, but the seller negates to tell you that the neck is so chipped up that its unplayable or “the bass played unreal at the last gig,” except the gig was 5 years ago and the pickups are dead. To top it off, the 'money shot' photos are excluded and then hides behind their own BS story. Our latest - oh, its just a scratchy pot only to find out the pre-amp is DESTROYED then the seller refuses to take it back.. REALLY?!?! That pot issue was discussed ad-nauseum prior to purchase. What is worse, is then the sellers hide behind the final sale clause. Like I said, we at Kebo’s have an unconditional return policy within our posted limits. If you don't like it, we take it back. No argument. That's not to say that we never make a mistake (although that really doesn’t happen very often) or something happens in transit. If we make a mistake, we make it right. It's that simple. We have been selling guitars and shipping them since 1989, and in that time, we have seen a lot of things from transit damage to set ups being knocked out. If you get an instrument that for some reason doesn’t play well, please remember, we are a business, we have telephones and emails that we ANSWER, and we return calls.
We can walk you through most adjustments and if not, 99% of the time we will have you bring the instrument to your favorite luthier and we will pay them directly once we speak to them. Remember, we MUST speak to them to discuss any or all adjustments to the instrument - until you approve the sale, we still own it. Very recently a known client in the Pacific NW received a bass where the truss rod needed to be tightened to remove some relief from travelling cross country. His luthier charged him 300.00 to do this and reglue a nut that most likely got knocked off while adjusting the nut - Don't believe me, I'll show you the the message. Another client in Southern California also needed a truss rod adjustment. His luthier said the bass needed a new nut and a fret dress. He was charged 425.00 for nothing more than a needed truss rod adjustment. Like I said, we stand behind our product but every bass gets shipped ready to go and we stand behind our product - but we're not dopes.... We've been in this business a long time and as long as these games are being played, we must stick to our contact rules. We also must know about any issues immediately upon receipt of the instrument. 3 months down the road, all bets are off.
When you see a Kebo's instrument, it is purchased, inspected and set up by one of the business principals. Before it ships it is re-setup / touched up to insure it is the best it's going to be. If the strings are not good, they get changed. No excuses.
Quite frankly, we are very disappointed that about 40% of all the instruments that we purchase online do not match their descriptions. If we are seeing this, then we are sure that you are probably seeing it too: bad electronics, bad necks, bad truss rods or frets, undisclosed finish work, poor playability, and lifted fret boards. How many times have you seen an instrument described as “all original” only to take delivery of the instrument and learn that the parts are from 3 different eras. Then when you call out the seller, they say, “well, they are all original parts.” That kind of chicanery doesn’t happen at Kebo’s. You work hard for your money and you deserve peace of mind. At Kebo's we strive to earn and keep your business. We try our hardest to be honest and limit mistakes - and in the rare event that we make a mistake, we bend over backwards to fix it.
Packing & Shipping: Every item regardless of size or value will be expertly packed using proper materials. As a firm we strive for a environmentally neutral footprint. When we purchase our packing supplies we use either good old fashion 'fish paper' or if you see peanuts, they are starch, not petroleum based and are friendly. If you do see a petrol based product, it is because they are recycled from a received shipment. We also prefer to ship UPS and used their Climate Neutral Service. These practices increases our packing costs by 25 to 35% BUT we do not pass this on to the consumer. We just think this is the responsible right thing to do as a corporation. Shipping costs we charge the low side of average on our rates. As we know shipping from NJ to CA is not the same as NJ to Fla. If our costs are higher, we never ever ask for the difference. It's the cost of doing business. WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND are these 'emporiums' charging 150 to 200 to ship a 1000.00 item.. really? How unethical especially with the rates we all get thru Reverb.
Unfortunately we had to add a new caveat regarding feedback - We will not leave feedback until feedback is left for us. The reason behind it is extortive feedback. The bass player in a 'well known tribute band - by his account' did this act of random 'cuteness'. I love the band the wannabe's also known as the fakers.. lol.. We sold an item in very good condition and it was 50 years old. We got a message that yes the bass was great, it played better than expected, looked great and sounded great. It was better than the description. He stated he was very happy with it. I leave feedback then I get a note - The case was in good shape but because there was a discolored latch, I was requested to refund him 250.00 on a 1000.00 bass or he was going to leave me slamming feedback. I told him to go ahead. So, that's the reason. This happens more than you would think.
