The legacy of the Korg Triton is something we've covered before, with writer John Morrison's look at "The Korg Triton and the 2000s Seachange in Beat Production." But do you want to hear that legacy in action? Well, have we got the video for you.
If you recall the biggest pop and hip-hop hits of the time—from Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Clipse, Nelly, and more—you're already thinking of Triton presets. In our latest The Synth Sounds of…, host William Kurk scrolls through the machine's synths and drum kits to show just how often this keyboard appeared on the radio airwaves.
The Neptunes (the production team of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo), had a lion's share of hits, and their well-documented love of the Korg Triton is on full display. But Lil Jon, Swizz Beatz, and other major producers were known (or at least suspected) to have the Triton in their arsenal as well.
Check out the video above to hear the Triton in action, and revel in the soundtrack of the then-new millennium.
