This overdrive was produced by Maxon (Nisshin Onpa Seisakusho) from around 1979 to 1981. Guitar and pedal enthusiasts will be familiar with the fact that it was sold as the "Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer Overdrive Pro" for overseas exports and the "Maxon OD-808 Overdrive" for domestic distribution. Due to its rarity and popularity among popular artists, it enjoys high demand in the vintage market. As evidenced by the existence of reissues, clone models, and collectors and researchers, it reigns supreme as one of the most iconic compact effects pedals, alongside its successors such as the TS-9 and TS-10.
This is a TS-808 in a large case. It has a hyphen in the "TS-808" and the "R" in the "Ibanez" trademark, no DC jack screw nut, no control scale, and a black plastic insulation sheet. It's a transitional unit with some changes from earlier models. Based on the parts dating, we believe it was shipped around 1980. There is some paint peeling on the case, but it's in good condition for its age.
The op-amp IC is a polished JRC4558D, and the FET is a 2SK44. The original sound and the drive blend together with a sense of overtones, creating a comfortable overdrive sound with thickness and just the right amount of edge. This superb pedal is packed with the sounds from classic albums, so give it a try.
