Zildjian Avedis 17" 2nd stamps - Hi Hats or Crash-Ride cymbals - 1930's or 1940's - 1040/1270 g - Brilliant - born together pair

Pair of 17" Zildjian pre-trans stamp / 2nd stamp cymbals from the late 1930's to early 1940's. 1040 g and 1270 gm weights. The lighter cymbal measures 16-5/8" while the heavier one is 17.0". Could be used as hi hats, ride, or crash cymbals. This is an original pair that have been together since day 1 as they show the identical look, texture, patina, type of manufacture, and stamping. The matching green patina patterns on the reverse only solidify that. Edges are smooth. Bell holes are clean at 7/16". No dents, dings, flea bites, or cracks. They sit about as close to dead flat is as possible for early A's. Both trademark stamps show similar doubling. Most would call these in 'excellent' condition as they are about as pristine as you can find for used cymbals with 80+ yrs of use.

17's are quite scarce in the pre-trans stamp era. And here is a born together/kept together pairing. Almost impossible to duplicate in sizes > 15" other than in orchestral pairs. There's no heavy and deep wear patterns to suggest orchestral pair use. And bottom edge wear is fairly slight to suggest they probably saw some hi hat use along the way. No way to know how they got used in the 1940's. They play wonderfully as hi hats with the lighter/slightly smaller one on top which is how I prefer them.

I included some photo's showing them placed directly over each other, showing the overlap. Doesn't affect playing or tonality. They play incredibly deep, dark, warm and dry as expected. A bit glassy in tone too as these often are, especially when the finish is on the brilliant side as these both are, making them both more cutting. Nothing made today can do what these can do. Very much like old K's, but with a little more sizzle and higher end tones. Both can crash and ride. Very versatile pairing. Most 17's from this era tend to be heavier orchestrals at 1500-1800 gm. These are basically a unique pair being both thin and born/kept together. Either one by itself is pretty scarce and only comes up for sale once to a couple times per year. An identical looking pair that aren't heavy orchestrals is basically a unicorn. I bought these as a pair from the same seller a couple years ago.
