NOTE: The original Moog system is fully functional, however, there is one intermittent issue that I want to disclose. There is a loose wire under the circuit board that will need to be addressed. I or anyone else have not attempted to find it and left it alone. When using the Moog toggle position pointing closest to the end of the guitar only (just this one position), the signal may cut out if the guitar is bumped or shaken. Bumping the guitar again will restore the signal immediately. Since every function operates correctly whenever the connection is present, it points to a good Moog System with a loose wire somewhere and not a failure of the Moog circuitry itself.
A video demonstrating this issue is included with the listing. If you cannot view the video or locate the link, simply send me a message and I'll gladly provide it.
1977 Gibson RD Artist Electric Guitar
All Original Guitar
Original Moog Electronics
Original Gibson Hard Case
Up for sale is a 1977 Gibson RD Artist in its original Ebony (Black) finish, complete with its original Moog active electronics and original Gibson hard shell case. The RD Artist was one of Gibson's most ambitious and technologically advanced guitars of the 1970s, featuring an active Moog designed electronics package that was decades ahead of its time with built-in compression, expansion, and bright functions. These guitars have become increasingly sought after by players and collectors alike due to their unique sound, rarity, and unmistakable futuristic design.
This guitar is 100% original with no repairs and remains in very nice vintage condition overall. The original black finish has held up exceptionally well, especially considering how difficult black finishes are to keep looking nice over nearly 50 years. It shows honest play wear including light scratches, a few small dings and chips, but nothing significant or out of the ordinary for a well-cared-for vintage instrument. The original gold hardware shows the expected discoloration and patina from age, exactly as pictured.
The guitar plays beautifully over the entire fingerboard and has been freshly set up. The neck is straight, the truss rod functions exactly as it should, and the fret wear is minimal as shown in the photos. There is no significant buckle rash to note.
