Bass War takes the DNA of Death By Audio's long-running Fuzz War — a savage analogue fuzz that's been a board staple for 15-plus years — and rebuilds it specifically for bass: more low-end retention, a tone sweep tuned for bass frequencies, and a Mix control that blends in clean signal so sub-bass stays articulate under heavy fuzz.
Four controls, but a genuinely wide range on each: Volume runs from -infinity up to +27dB above unity (unity sits around 10 o'clock, so most of the dial's travel is loud). Fuzz spans +16dB to +64dB of gain — grinding and dirty at low settings, full destruction at the top. Tone sweeps a deep notch filter from 98Hz to 3.3kHz rather than a conventional EQ curve, meaningfully reshaping the fuzz character at each position rather than just brightening or darkening it. Mix blends dry and fuzzed signal to keep low end present underneath the distortion.
Despite the name, it's not bass-exclusive — the same voicing that suits bass also works well on baritone, drop-tuned, or other low-register guitar setups.
Draws a light 33mA from a 9V DC centre-negative supply (also runs on a 9V battery, not included) — one of the more pedalboard-friendly current draws around. Handmade in Brooklyn with a lifetime warranty. A strong fit for bass players who want real fuzz aggression without losing the low end that holds a mix together, or guitarists chasing a genuinely low-register fuzz tone.
