Up for sale is a beautiful, highly clean, late-1970s Fender Precision Bass neck with a rosewood fingerboard.
Authenticity & Details:
- Serial number S872002 prominently stamped on the headstock face confirms a 1978–1979 CBS-era manufacture date.
- This is a factory-correct rosewood fingerboard model, meaning the truss rod was installed from the front under the slab wood—leaving the back of the maple neck profile and the heel clean, solid, and completely free of a walnut skunk stripe.
- Weight: The neck weighs exactly 2 lbs, 14 oz loaded with the original tuners and string tree, making it a perfectly balanced addition to any project body.
- The heel butt is blank (standard for the late 70s era), completely flat, and uninterrupted by any "Micro-Tilt" preparation discs, which is 100% correct for a 4-bolt P-Bass layout from this window.
Condition & Functionality:
- Truss Rod: Tested and 100% functional. The truss rod operates perfectly, turning smoothly in both directions. The cross-nut is in clean condition and is not stripped or cross-threaded.
- Heel Disclosures: The flat back of the neck heel features two minor non-original markings between the main 4-bolt holes (see photos). There is one small, clean aftermarket hole on the bass side (likely from a previous 3-bolt alignment) and one very shallow, tiny starter dimple near the center wood grain. These are completely hidden when mounted.
- Neck Profile & Headstock: The back of the maple neck profile shows beautiful, honest lacquer ambering and minor vintage character marks. Please note: There are two small, localized dings on the back of the neck profile that can be felt by the thumb while playing, as well as a small, notable compression dent on the face of the headstock crossing the bottom edge of the Fender logo decal (see close-up photos).
- Frets & Fingerboard: The rosewood fingerboard features a gorgeous, highly figured grain pattern that is clean, hydrated, and free of structural cracks. The frets are in excellent vintage condition with a tall profile and minimal wear, leaving plenty of life for decades of playing.
Comes completely loaded with its 4 original 1970s open-gear factory tuners and original string tree. Sold as-is.
