This cool Galanti Grand Prix 3002 is a vintage, solid-body electric guitar that wasmanufactured in Mondaino, Italy. This was done primarily during the mid-1960s (circa 1965). Unlike many European "bizarre" guitars of the era that heavily utilized plastic, the Grand Prix series is highly regarded for its surprisingly robust, high-quality wood construction and futuristic offset design.
Key Specifications & Features
- Model System: The "3002" designation explicitly denotes the two-pickup version of the Grand Prix line. (Sibling models included the 3003 for three pickups and 4000 for the bass).
- Tonewoods: Features a solid mahogany body paired with a mahogany or maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard.
- Electronics: Equipped with two mini-humbuckers controlled by a master volume, master tone, and a distinctive four push-button selector array.
- The Accordion Connection: The push-button switches were directly sourced from Galanti's primary manufacturing background as a world-class accordion builder. The buttons allow players to select the neck pickup, bridge pickup, both together, or act as a total kill switch.
- Hardware & Quirks: Built almost entirely in-house, featuring a proprietary roller-saddle bridge(designed to reduce friction) and an integrated vibrato system. It also features a unique dual truss-rod system adjustable at both the headstock and the base of the neck.
Sonic Character & Common Modifications
Out of the box, the mini-humbuckers provide an articulate, smooth growl. However, the original 1960s factory wiring integrated a strict high-pass filter that frequently made the pickups sound incredibly thin or out-of-phase when combined.
