Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at an excellent sounding 1980's era Audio Technica ATM41 model dynamic cardioid microphone that has very strong output and set at Low Z making this an excellent choice for singing and broadcasting purposes. It comes with it's original mic clip shown. This is a fantastic Audio Technica product an easily on par with any fine dynamic mic of that era even sounding far better than most new mics of today. A very masculine and aggressive looking mic that was made in Japan and built to last.

Pic # 2 shows an old Audio Technica ATM41 data sheet I have that shows the mics basic characteristics. The data sheet is not included however.

This mic is set at 600 OHMS (low impedance) and sounds virtually identical to The very popular Shure SM-58 model mic. This was Audio Technica's competition to that mic and just like the SM-58 the ATM41 is very rugged, reliable and has excellent tone. If you've never heard one of these before then you'll be absolutely impressed. Audio Technica really came into their own during the 1980's and 90's.

Most mics being manufactured in Japan at this time were often some of the finest on the market due to the high quality control and superior design that was being implemented. Even Electro Voice sold several of their models made in japan at that time.

While the 1st gen ATM41 and 2nd gen ATM41A both look virtually identical the 2nd gen model had a little less bass as it was set at 250 OHMS as where the 1st gen model was set at 600 OHMS like the Shure SM-58. Both are extremely great sounding mics however. Just something to keep in mind if you are curious about these ATM41 series mics.

This ATM41 has a smooth warm tone that will be greatly appreciated by any musician or broadcaster using it. A bit heavier on the bass as you would expect at 600 OHMS. It's uni-directional as well blocking out most background noise.

This ATM41 has an attractive black / grey paint scheme on an all metal body and again, quite rugged. This mic has a bit of weight to it as well. Built like a tank. It comes with the original mic clip as well so you can mount the mic to any desk or floor stand you have. The mic clip shows the same amount of wear as the mic and it has a dual plastic / metal construction.

It's a very appealing stick mic and the pop filter is top notch. You can use a larger foam exterior pop filter if you want for improved sound but the stock is just fine. I did replace the inner foam pop filter as the original was shot but there is a very unique and practical inner silk screen as well and it's in perfect condition.

As you can see there is a bit of cosmetic wear on the painted finish of this mic. A few lite scuff marks, scratches and discoloration but it's been thoroughly cleaned so it won't look any better than it does. A couple lite scratches but it's free of dents or fractures. The front screen is metal and free of any odors, tarnish or dents. The Audio Technica label shows very lite wear but completely legible.

This mic is appx 7 inches tall X 2 inches wide at the tip.

The mic takes a standard XLR cable though none is provided. I did clean the XLR pins as they were a bit tarnished. This will ensure a perfect signal once a cable is attached.

Overall I would rate this mic an 6 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department.

If you need a real work horse that is a bit more obscure these days then this Audio Technica ATM41 will absolutely get the job done and these were so well built that it should last another 40 to 50 years easy.
