These late 70s/early 80s Artist models

rightly enjoy a very good reputation, as they represent

the pinnacle of Japanese guitar craftsmanship.

The AR models are often referred to as ‘Les Paul killers’.

They definitely in the same league as a Les Paul.

However, I don’t think they sound like a Les Paul;

they certainly have a character of their own,

but in terms of quality, they are clearly a cut above

what Gibson generally produced during that period.
