Terry Bozzio's Remo - 12-Piece Acousticon Drum Kit 1987–1988 - Black Quadura Finish - Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan Tour, Mick Jagger, Missing Persons

(#3)

Terry Bozzio redefined the drum set, transforming it into a fully melodic, orchestral instrument. He achieved legendary status in the 1970s by conquering Frank Zappa's notoriously unplayable The Black Page. His fierce technicality, blended with deep groove and remarkable musicality, helped propel Missing Persons into the New Wave mainstream and anchored Jeff Beck's powerhouse trio. His pioneering use of melodic ostinatos and tuned percussion expanded the boundaries of drum design, tuning, and acoustic engineering. His Melodic Drumming & the Ostinato and Solo Drums instructional videos inspired generations of drummers, demonstrating that the musical possibilities of the drum set are virtually endless.

From the personal collection of legendary drummer Terry Bozzio.

This 1980s REMO drum set marks a significant turning point in the remarkable career one of the most unique and innovative drummers of our time. Terry Bozzio scored major success with top artists like Frank Zappa, U.K. and Missing Persons. In the mid 1980s, he made the bold move to establish himself as a solo drum artist. At this time he joined forces with the REMO drum company who were also making a bold move. REMO had already established themselves as the top manufacturer of drumheads in the world. They were now attempting to establish themselves as a top drum builder with their innovative, composite shelled Quadura Acousticon drums. Terry Bozzio was the perfect artist to represent their new innovation.

At this time Terry released his revolutionary Melodic Drumming and Solo Drums instructional videos. These videos inspired generations of drummers to abandon previously held limitations on their drumming.

Terry Bozzio played this actual 12-piece Remo Acousticon kit in Black Quadura finish on both his Melodic Drumming and Solo Drums videos.

According to Terry's own notes, "This is the very kit on which I composed and performed my first solo drum music, featured throughout the Paiste Videos 1, 2 & 3. It was subsequently used during Jeff Beck's 1989 tour with Stevie Ray Vaughan, after Bozzio first played it in Mick Jagger's "Throwaway" music video, where I met Jeff Beck and was invited to join his band".

The kit also appeared on recordings by:

  • Missing Persons
  • Richard Marx
  • Steve Vai
  • Robbie Robertson
  • Dweezil Zappa

In addition to extensive studio work, the kit was used for solo performances and numerous magazine photo sessions throughout Terry's career.

The drums remain in very good condition with normal cosmetic wear from professional use. The drums remain in 100% functional condition with no notable damage. We've left it exactly the way we found it in Terry's warehouse. The heads from Terry's last performance on the set still remain. Some of the drums are dusty.

We're throwing in Terry's Pearl Icon drum rack with Remo cymbal booms, tom mounts and case at NO CHARGE. Terry switched to using this Pearl Icon rack with this set towards the end of his tenure with REMO. All the pieces appear to be there, but due to the large number of parts we're not able to inventory each part.
