Giddings and Webster Boreas model mouthpiece in stainless steel, for large bore tenor trombone.
Key Specs & Highlights:
- Rim Diameter: 1.008"
- Throat: .283"
- Cup: Deep funnel shape for massive volume and richness
- Backbore: Significantly more open than traditional designs for huge airflow and dynamic freedom
- Precision-machined on CNC lathes with robotic consistency, then hand-finished in frost-finish stainless steel — hypoallergenic, zero replating, built to last forever.
This large shank mouthpiece is extremely free blowing, with consistent partial slotting. The stainless steel, being denser than brass, provides more tactile feedback to the player. This allows for greater awareness of the embouchure function during play. Additionally, the material differs in texture and grip compared to the silver plating found on most mouthpieces. I find that steel is less 'sticky' than silver plate against the lips, which can help relieve soreness from friction long hours of play.
Used for my last few years of college as a music education major. Shows minor, normal finish wear from use. Includes double-layer padded mouthpiece case. Current price for this model when new is about $289.
